The first organized meeting of Newburg Road Church of Christ was held in June of 1959 in the home of Bro. and Sis. George Holt. Shedd and John Berry, George and Bessie Holt, Bulah Everett and family, Ora Marshall and family, Farrow family, Clarence Moore and family, Carl Gaines, Sr. and family, Morgan and Charles Tinker, Joyce Gray and family , Clemons family, Delma Wester and family, Earl Dulin and family. These families were its charter members.

 

In early 1962, with the assistance of the Beech Street congregation (now West Broadway), construction began on a building. Bro. Clyde Muse, Sr., minister of the Beech Street congregation at the time, labored physically and tirelessly on the actual construction of the edifice. Construction is completed on December 27, 1962. The first services are held on February 23, 1963 and Brothers Frank McGill and Clyde Muse, Sr., assist as ministers during that time. On September 27, 1963 Brother Elbert Hudson became Newburg Church of Christ first permanent minister.
